Residents in Jackson Township including those in the City of Grove City and village of Urbancrest will see a fire levy on their Nov. 3, 2020 General Election ballots. The Jackson Township Board of Trustees voted — Trustees Ron McClure and Jim Rauck yes, and Trustee David Burris no — to proceed with a four-mill tax levy for a five-year term for fire and emergency medical services.
“We want to be good stewards of our taxpayer dollars and continue to provide the quality services our community deserves,” said Jackson Township Trustee Ron McClure. “By placing the levy on the ballot, we are being proactive. The Board believes presenting the issue to our voters and allowing them to decide is the right thing to do.”
The proposed fire levy is expected to generate $4,962,393.04 annually for the following.
• provision for and maintenance of fire and emergency medical service apparatus
• maintenance of fire department buildings
• payment of fire-fighting companies including emergency medical services, administrative or communications personnel costs
• purchase of fire tools and ambulance equipment
• provision for ambulance, paramedic or other emergency medical services
The proposed fire levy rate of four mills equates to an estimated $140 per year per $100,000 in market value. The levy would be effective from Jan. 1, 2021 and end Dec. 31, 2025.
“Our residents always have depended on the fire department for health and safety emergencies,” said Jackson Township Trustee Jim Rauck. “As the community grows, we want to continue to provide the same level of service you’ve come to expect. Passage of the fire levy will ensure we can respond quickly to whatever emergencies arise in our community.
“When the four-mill levy ends in 2025, the collection rate will be removed from your tax bill,” Rauck said.
