Policies, Permits, Inspections & Fees

All permits and fees shall be made payable by check or money order to Jackson Township Fiscal Officer. Payment may be made in person at the Fire Administration Office at 3650 Hoover Road, Grove City, Ohio from 8:00am to 4:30pm Monday through Friday, or payment may be mailed to P.O. Overview

Jackson Township Fire Code & Permit/Fee Schedule

The adopted Jackson Township Fire Code affects commercial and industrial properties, public and private roadways as well as public and private fire hydrants. Residential properties are not affected by the code with the exception of licensing for daycare providers and foster-care homes.

Copies of the Jackson Township Fire Code can be available for review at the Franklin County Law Library, the City of Grove City Building Department, the Grove City branch of the Southwest Public Library, Urbancrest Municipal Building, Jackson Township Administration Office and the Jackson Township Fire Department Headquarters at 3650 Hoover Road in Grove City, Ohio.


Fire Protection Systems

This information is for the installation or modification of the following Fire Protection Systems.

Automatic Sprinkler System

Underground Fire Line

This permit is for the installation or modification of underground fire lines, which service fire protection systems, fire hydrants or any combination thereof. (The permit fee covers the initial witness of underground hydrostatic pressure test/flush and thrust block inspection. Additional inspections/trips will be subject to a $75 fee, payable before the scheduled appointment.) All fire hydrants to be installed shall be inspected by the fire code official for approval prior to installation in the ground.

Inspection, Reinspection, Retest of Failed Fire Protection Systems & Other Fees

Retest of Failed Fire Protection Systems

$75 Per Trip
All permitted prescheduled inspections/tests cancelled after 8:30am the day of the inspection/test, will be subject to the $75 retest of failed inspection fee.

Reinspection Fee – Existing Commercial Properties (More Than One Reinspection Trip)

$75 Per Trip
The usual and accepted number of re-inspections to resolve fire code violations in commercial properties and businesses shall not exceed one reinspection. If in the fire code official’s opinion, progress to correct the violations is not being made, a business owner shall be charged $75 per trip beyond the one reinspection, until the violations are corrected.

Late Fees

$25
Any required annual permit that is 30 days or more past due will be charged a late fee of $25 and could result in operations being stopped until permit is renewed.

Special Hours Inspections

$75 Per Hour/Per Inspector • Two-Hour Minimum
Any requested or required fire inspection which occurs or continues outside the normal workday for the fire inspection bureau will require a special-hours inspection fee of $75 per hour, per fire safety inspector, with a minimum of two hours per inspector ($150). Business hours for the fire inspection bureau are from 8:00am to 4:00pm Monday through Friday (excluding holidays). Any hours beyond the two-hour minimum will be charged at $75 per hour.

Permit to Use a Public Hydrant (All Yellow)

The Jackson Township Fire Department requires a fire hydrant usage permit. The permit holder is also required to obtain a hydrant permit from the City of Columbus Division of Water. The following three hydrants are available for use.

Available Public Hydrants

  • 4500 Broadway - 1st Hydrant South of Ventura Blvd on Broadway/Harrisburg Pike
  • 1640 Buckeye Place - 5th Hydrant W of Buckeye Parkway
  • 6250 Haughn Rd - 1st Hydrant East of Bill Lotz Way on Haughn Road
  • 2377 Quail Creek Blvd. - 3rd Hydrant East of Hoover on Quail Creek

*Other Jackson Township hydrants on at least a six-inch water line may be used with approval from Columbus Division of Water.

NOTE: Any use of a public or private fire hydrant requires the use of a back flow preventer. Back flow preventers can be rented from the City of Columbus Division of Water. The phone number for Columbus Division of Water is (614) 645-7330.

Use of a Fire Hydrant (Public) Noncompliance

$300 Per Occurrence
All rules and permit requirements pertaining to the use of public or private fire hydrants shall be strictly followed or the permit will be revoked and or the owner will be charged by the Jackson Township Fire Department for a noncompliance with the rules and permit requirements.

Tents & Air-Supported Structures

Please note that a Tent Permit Application is required from the Jackson Township Fire Department for a tent or air-supported structure in excess of 200 square feet or for a canopy in excess of 400 square feet.

Open Burning

Recreational/Cooking Fire (Max 3’ x 3’)

No Charge
An outdoor fire, not burning rubbish, not contained in an outdoor fireplace or barbecue grill or pit, max 3’ by 3’; for pleasure, religious, ceremonial, cooking, warmth, or similar purposes.

Bonfire/Ceremonial (Max 5’ x 5’)

No Charge
Bonfires require an Ohio EPA approval and permit along with a Jackson Township department permit. OFC 2011 Section 307.2

Underground Storage Tanks: Hazardous Substance List

Any required permits or inspections for underground storage tank installation, alteration or removal will be directed to the State of Ohio Fire Marshal’s Office – BUSTR at (614) 752-7938.

Hydrants

Approved Hydrant Makes: American Darling, Eddy, Kennedy, Mueller & Clow. Preferred being American Darling, Model: Mark 73-5.

When installing hydrants in Jackson Township/Grove City/Urbancrest, please call us for inspections PRIOR to installation. Advance noticed of 24 hour is recommended to guarantee availability of an inspector. Contact the Prevention Bureau at (614) 875-5588 if you have any questions.
