Capt. Jason Burley who has worked with the Jackson Township Fire Department 19 years was selected by the Jackson Township Board of Trustees at its Nov. 27, 2018 meeting as the department’s next battalion chief. The promotional opportunity opened following the retirement of Charles Strader in October 2018 who was battalion chief more than six years.

Burley has logged more than 2,200 hours as acting battalion chief. Some of Burley’s career accomplishments include the Ohio Fire Service Valor Award, Jackson Township Fire Department Medal of Merit, OhioHealth paramedic instructor, Southwest Community Leadership graduate, numerous Ohio Fire Academy certifications, and hazmat and swift-water rescue technician.

“Battalion Chief Burley always has been a dedicated and positive employee.” said Jackson Township Fire Department Deputy Chief Shawn Quincel. “His work ethic and leadership skills are exactly the kind of qualities we pursue when promoting company officers into these supervisory positions.”

The fire department’s battalion chief is a management position that works under the direction of the fire chief with oversight of all daily administrative and operational functions of the fire department including scene incident commander, training, safety, and vehicle and station maintenance.

“I always have kept a positive attitude throughout my career and have encouraged others to do the same,” Battalion Chief Burley said. “I thrive daily to gain knowledge, skills and new abilities to better myself and others around me. I am confident I will be a great asset to the department in the role of battalion chief because of my skills and strong leadership style.”
