Fire hydrant flushing begins May 1, 2017

Jackson Township Fire Department personnel will begin their annual fire hydrant flushing May 1, 2017. Hydrant flushing will be conducted from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays until all 2,388 fire hydrants have been flushed. The process is expected to take two to four weeks.

Hydrant flushing may cause water to become rusty and appear discolored. Although the water typically is not harmful to drink, it may discolor clothing washed in it. There are products available at most area grocery or department stores and pharmacies to remove rust coloring in clothing.
