Lt. Luke Smith receives public service award

The Knights of Columbus Perpetual Help Council 4603 presented Jackson Township Fire Division’s Lt. Luke Smith with its 2017 Public Service Award during a Veteran’s Day ceremony Nov. 11, 2017 in Grove City, Ohio. Fire Chief Randy Little selected Lt. Smith because of his exceptional public, family and community service.

Lt. Smith was hired as a full-time firefighter with the Jackson Township Fire Division in January 2004 and was promoted to lieutenant in December 2014. Lt. Smith is very active in his church and is a youth leader and mentor, and has served at the Star House homeless shelter. He traveled to serve the Haitian people with a medical missions team and assisted in building a playground for the Village of Urbancrest during his participation in the Southwest Community Leadership Program.

Grove City Division of Police K9 Officer Brian Kitko also received a 2017 Knights of Columbus Public Service Award during the recognition ceremony.
