Preschoolers learn ‘get low and go’

Fire safety educator Indol Moore of the Jackson Township Fire Prevention Bureau taught preschoolers at Great Beginnings Academy in Jackson Township tips and tricks about fire safety Sept. 16, 2014. Moore had the children participate in rotations in the safety house which included a kitchen safety demonstration.

Moore sang a catchy fire safety song and taught the children catchy safety phrases: “Get low and go” and “When smoke goes up, you go down”. He emphasized to the children not to be afraid of firefighters because, “Firefighters love you and are going to take care of you.”

He introduced the students to “See-more” the smoke detector in the bedroom of the safety house then filled the bedroom with artificial smoke (fog) and had them practice safely exiting down a ladder.
